Use this camera to check the current weather and road surface conditions in Sapporo. In winter, the stream also shows the snow depth measured at the Japan Meteorological Agency's AMeDAS station, updated once an hour, so you can compare the official figure with what you see on screen.
The camera looks over the intersection at the western end of the Tanukikoji shopping street, on the border between 8-chome and 9-chome. Tanukikoji is a historic shopping street dating back to the early Meiji era, but its arcade roof only covers 1-chome to 7-chome. The street lamps in 8-chome carry plates reading "Tanukikoji 8-chome Shopping Street": the block was once a member of the Sapporo Tanukikoji Shopping Street Association but later left it, which is why 8-chome has never had an arcade roof.
On the 9-chome corner stands Goemon Ramen, known for its shoyu ramen made with chicken broth and Hokkaido salmon flakes. In the 2011 film "Tantei wa Bar ni Iru" (The Detective Is in the Bar), the hero played by Yo Oizumi and his partner Takada, played by Ryuhei Matsuda, slurp ramen in this very shop. It was also used as a filming location for the Netflix drama "Tastefully Yours".
