Natural parks and Natural Monuments
Natural parks are areas designated under the Natural Parks Act to protect outstanding natural scenery and promote its use. National parks and quasi-national parks are designated by the Minister of the Environment; prefectural natural parks are designated by prefectures by ordinance.
National and quasi-national parks with mountains in this catalog
Of the 156 mountains, 77 have their summit inside a national or quasi-national park. We checked this with the MLIT National Land Numerical Information (natural park areas, 2015). The Hidaka-sanmyaku Erimo Quasi-National Park was enlarged and became Hidaka-sanmyaku Erimo Tokachi National Park on June 25, 2024; mountains whose summit was in the former quasi-national park are listed under the national park. For Mount Tokachi-Horoshiri and Mount Pisenai we could not confirm whether they are in the enlarged area, so their park field is left blank.
Prefectural natural parks are not yet covered in this catalog.
