Watch Out for Icy Roads! Ambulances Called Twice in One Day at the Same Intersection

Some visitors coming to Sapporo in winter from outside Hokkaido might think, “Tokyo gets snow once a year too, and I snowboard at ski resorts every winter — so I can handle Sapporo’s snowy roads, no problem.”

But wait! Do you know how terrifying icy roads can be when melted snow refreezes?

These photos show ambulances arriving at the same intersection in February 2025, after people slipped on icy roads and suffered serious injuries — both in the morning and at night. Not on different days, but on the same day (at 10 AM and 9 PM).

We want to help you avoid getting injured by slipping on icy roads and ruining the rest of your trip!

That’s why we created this website. To raise awareness among international visitors, we also provide information in English and Traditional Chinese.
