About Pekerettonuma Pond

A pond near the Ishikari River in Kita Ward, Sapporo, described in the survey's data appendix as an oxbow lake left behind when the river changed course. Its transparency in 1991 was only 0.1 m, and it was eutrophic (nutrient-rich). Recorded species include loach, sticklebacks, crucian carp, carp and Japanese smelt, and mallards and smew in winter. In the 1976 aerial photo the pond was surrounded by fields.
