About Lake Abashiri

A lagoon-origin lake on the lower Abashiri River, brackish because seawater moves in and out through the river. It is one of the seven lagoon lakes of Abashiri Quasi-National Park. The 1991 survey recorded flounder, Japanese smelt, icefish and sticklebacks, Japanese corbicula clams on the bottom, and mallards, pintails and whooper swans in winter.
