Suichokan (翠蝶館) — Jozankei Women’s Retreat is a boutique hot-spring inn in Jozankei Onsen, Sapporo’s historic resort area. Designed exclusively for women aged 13 and older, the property offers just 20 guest rooms, creating a quiet, intimate hideaway rather than a lively, traditional ryokan. Located in Jozankei Onsen Nishi 3-chome, it is about 50–60 minutes by bus or shuttle from Sapporo Station and roughly two hours by car from New Chitose Airport.

The concept is “A retreat that nurtures a woman’s mind and body.” The hotel combines esthetic treatments, spa therapies, meditation-focused facilities, and hot-spring bathing to create a deeply restorative stay. Originally opened as “Spa & Esthetique Sui Chokan,” it still offers a full menu of body and facial treatments. Many guests note that the women-only environment feels comfortable even for solo travelers—one of the reasons solo stays have grown increasingly popular.

All 20 guest rooms—ranging from Japanese-style and Western-style rooms to Japanese-Western hybrids—are decorated in calm, understated tones. The spring water is a sodium-chloride type, known in Jozankei for its skin-friendly qualities. Guests can also use the on-site stone sauna and meditation spa, combining thermal bathing with deep relaxation. In addition, guests have complimentary access to the large baths and private “Mori-no-Yu” bathhouse at the sister property, Jozankei Daiichi Hotel Suizantei, allowing them to enjoy multiple hot-spring experiences during their stay.

Meals focus on gentle, nourishing Japanese cuisine built around the “ma-go-wa-ya-sa-shi-i” dietary concept—beans, sesame, seaweed, vegetables, fish, mushrooms, and potatoes. Dinner is a balanced kaiseki-style meal using seasonal Hokkaido ingredients, prepared with light seasonings and served in portions that satisfy without overwhelming. Dinner also includes a complimentary self-serve drink station with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options. Breakfast follows a Japanese-style format with dishes that are easy on the stomach.

Facilities include the restaurant “Suien,” a lounge area, the large bath and open-air bath, stone sauna, esthetic treatment rooms, and quiet spaces designed especially for women. The entire property offers Wi-Fi, and the lobby includes comfortable seating for reading or relaxing. Luggage storage, shuttle service, and free parking are available, making the inn convenient whether guests arrive by car or public transportation. The women-only policy ensures a peaceful and calming atmosphere throughout the building.

Access is simple: the Jotetsu Bus from Sapporo Station South Exit reaches Jozankei in about 50 minutes, and the inn is within walking distance from the Daiichi Hotel-mae bus stop. On select days, a reservation-only free shuttle operates as well. The property is close enough to walk to footbaths, cafés, and local walking paths in the onsen town, making it easy to combine hot-spring relaxation with gentle sightseeing.
