Grand Blissen Hotel Jozankei is a modern hot-spring hotel perched on a hillside in Jozankei Onsen, just an hour from central Sapporo. Opened in July 2021, it completely rebuilt the former “Jozankei Grand Hotel” while inheriting its historic hot-spring source. The seven-story, fully non-smoking property is designed so that guests can enjoy sweeping views of the valley from almost anywhere inside, offering a retreat-like atmosphere despite its easy access from the city.

The hotel has 68 guest rooms, all facing the valley. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame seasonal scenery—from spring greenery and summer forests to autumn foliage and winter snowscapes. Room types include five categories such as luxury Japanese-Western rooms with private hot-spring view baths, twin rooms with private baths, universal twin rooms, and standard twins. Fifty-eight rooms are equipped with their own continuously flowing private onsen bath, allowing guests to enjoy the hot spring at any time. Only the standard twin features a shower booth instead of a private bath, but guests may use the hotel’s main bathing facilities.

The onsen uses clear sodium-chloride spring water known for excellent heat retention—often called “netsu-no-yu” (warming water). The large communal bath on the lower floor features a glass-fronted indoor bath overlooking the gorge and an open-air bath surrounded by trees, allowing guests to soak while experiencing the fresh air and changing seasons. Two types of saunas, a cold bath, and an exfoliation room are also available. The spring water is said to help relieve neuralgia, muscle and joint pain, cold sensitivity, and fatigue, making it well suited for travelers wanting deep relaxation.

Meals are served at the first-floor “Keikoku Restaurant.” Dinner is a seven-course menu divided into four chapters, prepared by Japanese, Western, and Chinese chefs. The meal begins with Japanese starters and sashimi, followed by colorful Chinese dishes, and culminates in the signature main course—house-made roast rib and striploin of Tokachi herb-fed beef, carved tableside from a special service wagon. Breakfast combines a Japanese set meal with a buffet of vegetables, seasonal fruits, and desserts, ideal for those who like a balanced and vegetable-forward start to the day.

The restaurant offers a variety of seating options, including counter seats facing the valley, booth seating, family-friendly spaces, and a kids’ corner equipped with a nursing room. The open kitchen allows guests to watch the chefs at work, and drinks can be ordered via tablets placed at each table. Soft drinks are complimentary and self-serve.

The hotel also features a library, tearoom, café-bar, spa, and gift shop. The library and tearoom occupy a calm, fireside lounge with large windows framing the valley; guests can enjoy reading or tea in a soothing setting. At night, the café-bar lights up and offers a relaxed space for drinks. The gift shop sells selected Hokkaido specialties and hotel-original items, and guests choose amenities from a dedicated selection area.

Located at “Jozankei Onsen Higashi 4-chome,” the hotel is about one hour from central Sapporo via Route 230, and roughly 90–120 minutes from New Chitose Airport. A free, reservation-only shuttle bus operates daily from JR Sapporo Station’s north exit for hotel guests. Sitting high above the gorge, the hotel offers panoramic views from many areas throughout the building, making it an appealing choice for adults seeking a quiet stay focused on scenery, hot springs, and quality dining.
