About Kamuinupuri (Mount Mashu)

Kamuinupuri (Mount Mashu) is a 857 m mountain in Teshikaga Town, Hokkaido. It lies within Akan-Mashu National Park. Also called Mount Mashu, this small stratovolcano sits on the southeast rim of the caldera that holds Lake Mashu. A large eruption about 1,000 years ago left a crater about 1 km across at the summit. The trail looks down on both the lake and the crater, and continues along the ridge to Mount Nishibetsu.
