About Konuma Pond

The lake south of Onuma, formed in the same way when lava from Mt. Komagatake's 1640 eruption dammed the rivers. Like Onuma, it is dotted with small islets called nagareyama. It was designated a Ramsar Site in 2012 together with Onuma and Junsainuma. The 1991 survey recorded carp, Japanese smelt and crucian carp, and tufted ducks and whooper swans in winter.
