A sculptural work by American artist Isamu Noguchi, installed near the western end of Odori Park. Made from black granite, it stands approximately 3.6 meters tall and weighs around 80 tons, and was unveiled in 1992. The work is based on Noguchi's "Slide Mantra," originally presented at the 1986 Venice Biennale as the American representative entry, and was reimagined in black granite specifically for outdoor use where children could actually slide on it.

The smooth, flowing curves of the black stone masterfully merge sculptural beauty with the functionality of a playground piece. Known as a "playable sculpture," it can be slid down by anyone who visits. Noguchi is said to have described it as a work "completed by the seat of a child," embodying his belief that participation by people is what makes art whole.

Noguchi had a deep connection with Sapporo — beyond this work in Odori Park, he is also celebrated for designing Moerenuma Park in its entirety as a single large-scale sculpture. This piece is one of Sapporo's defining works of public art, drawing enthusiasts from across Japan and around the world.
