DANSETSU SAPPORO is an urban hotel in Chuo Ward, Sapporo, located at Minami 6-jo Higashi 2-chome, featuring natural hot springs and a full sauna facility. It is within walking distance of Hosui-Susukino Station on the Toho Subway Line, offering convenient access to the Susukino entertainment district. While close to the city’s nightlife, the hotel is designed around bathing and relaxation, creating a calm atmosphere inside. The property has 136 guestrooms, all non-smoking.
The hotel’s defining feature is its natural hot spring bath and sauna complex on the first floor. The large public bath was designed by architect Kentaro Imai, known for his work on bathing facilities, while the sauna was planned and supervised by Daisuke Matsuo, widely known as “Totonoe Oyakata.” The layout connects the sauna room, cold-water bath, and outdoor air-cooling area in a smooth flow, centered on a Finnish-style sauna with automatic löyly.
The sauna area includes several distinctive design elements. The cold-water bath features water flowing down the wall surface, with charcoal used as part of the wall material. The outdoor air-cooling space allows natural air to pass through gaps in wooden walls and is equipped with dedicated relaxation chairs. There is no timer inside the sauna, encouraging guests to enter and exit based on their own condition and comfort. Towels are not provided in the bath area and must be brought from the guestroom. Sauna use is limited to junior high school age and above, and children may enter opposite-gender baths only if they are preschool age.
Some guestrooms are equipped with private in-room saunas. The Sauna Suite, approximately 63 square meters, includes a self-löyly sauna, a cold bath with cooling function, and a dedicated relaxation space. The Sauna Premium Twin, about 39 square meters, also features a self-löyly sauna within the room. These room types are ideal for guests who prefer to enjoy sauna time without leaving their room.
Other room options include the Premium Twin (approximately 43 square meters), which features a bathroom with an artificial hot spring. Standard rooms are mainly doubles and twins of around 20 square meters, along with a Superior Twin (about 23 square meters) suitable for up to three guests. For longer stays or families, the Family Suite (about 62 square meters) is equipped with a mini kitchen, microwave, refrigerator-freezer, and washer-dryer. A barrier-free universal room is also available.
Guestroom amenities include a TV, refrigerator, electric kettle, washlet toilet, hair dryer, safety box, air purifier with humidifier function, and complimentary Wi-Fi. Provided amenities include toothbrushes, mineral water, shampoo and bath products, nightwear, and slippers. Some rooms are equipped with Dyson hair dryers.
Dining is offered at the restaurant on the second floor. Breakfast is served buffet-style, focusing on Hokkaido meat and dairy products. The selection includes locally made charcuterie, Matsumae-zuke, bacon from Tonden Farm, and Catalana dessert from Hanabatake Farm. Breakfast hours are from 7:00 to 9:30.
As a guest service, ramen is served as a late-night snack between 21:00 and 23:00. The soup is miso-based with additions such as fish powder, oyster sauce, and back fat, designed to be light and satisfying after a sauna session.
A lounge is located on the 10th floor, offering alcoholic beverages, soft drinks, and light snacks. It is open from 7:00 to 24:00. Guests staying in the Sauna Premium Twin, Sauna Suite, or Premium Twin can use the lounge free of charge, while other room types can access it through lounge-included plans. The lounge furniture is made by Conde House, a furniture manufacturer based in Asahikawa, Hokkaido.
The hotel layout places the front desk, public bath and sauna, self-service cloakroom, vending machines, and ice machine on the first floor. The second floor houses the restaurant, smoking booth, coin-operated laundry, and some guestrooms. Guestrooms are mainly located on floors 3 through 9 and 10 through 12.
For guests arriving by car, a mechanical parking system is available on a first-come, first-served basis, with no advance reservations and vehicle size restrictions. If a vehicle does not meet the requirements, nearby public parking must be used. Parking fees and conditions should be confirmed at the time of use.
Inside the hotel, guests can also enjoy photo exhibitions by Hokkaido-based photographers and clay wall artworks created by traditional plasterers. Centered on natural hot springs and sauna culture, DANSETSU SAPPORO offers a well-equipped and relaxing base for staying in the Susukino area.
