Map of Sapporo’s Underground Areas
This map plots Sapporo’s underground spaces and their surface exits.
The map is published at the URL below.
North–South Underground Network (Sapporo Station North Square Underground Passage – Susukino Station)
The north–south length of Sapporo’s underground network is approximately 1.9 km, making it the longest in Japan in terms of straight-line distance.
It extends from the northern end “Sapporo Station North Square Underground Passage,” passing through JR Sapporo Station, “Apia,” “Subway Sapporo Station,” “Apia,” “Sapporo Ekimae-dori Underground Walkway (Chi-Ka-Ho),” “Subway Odori Station,” and “Sapporo Underground Shopping Arcade Pole Town,” continuing to the southern end at “Subway Susukino Station.”
Subway Susukino Station, located at the southern end of the underground network, sits at the northern edge of the Susukino entertainment district. There are no underground passages extending further south (toward Nakajima Park).
East–West Underground Network (Odori Station – Bus Center-mae Station)
The east–west length of Sapporo’s underground network is approximately 1.26 km.
It runs from the western end at “Subway Odori Station” Exit 1 (Odori Nishi 5-chome) to the eastern end at “Subway Bus Center-mae Station” Exit 10.
Along the way, the parallel underground shopping arcade “Sapporo Underground Shopping Arcade Aurora Town” runs alongside the route.
Of the 12 total blocks of Odori Park (Odori Nishi 1-chome to Nishi 12-chome), underground exits exist only along five blocks: Odori Nishi 1-chome through Nishi 5-chome.
There are no underground passages from Odori Nishi 6-chome to Nishi 12-chome.
Other Underground Passages
In addition to the underground areas introduced above, there is the “Kita 1-jo Public Underground Walkway,” which extends from the Sapporo Ekimae-dori Underground Walkway (Chi-Ka-Ho) toward Chuo Police Station, Kitakaro Sapporo Main Store, and the Bank of Japan Sapporo Branch, as well as the “Nishi 2-chome Underground Walkway,” which connects Subway Odori Station to Sapporo Community Plaza and the Sapporo Cultural Arts Theater (hitaru).
