Takino Suzuran Hillside National Park 国営滝野すずらん公園
The only national government-administered park in Hokkaido, established in 1983 in Minami Ward, Sapporo. Its approximately 400 hectares are divided into four zones — the Central Zone, the Gorge Zone, and the Takino Forest Zone (East and West) — each offering a distinct natural experience. Three waterfalls cascade through the park, including "Ashiribetsu no Taki," a 26-meter-high waterfall selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls and the largest within Sapporo city limits.
The park is celebrated as a floral destination through every season: spring brings Japanese liverwort and tulips, summer is the season for lily of the valley and alpine wildflowers, and autumn transforms the park with sweeping expanses of vivid red kochia. Family-friendly areas are extensive: summer offers water play in the mountain stream and large adventure playgrounds; winter brings "Snow World," home to one of Japan's largest tube sledding courses and a wide range of snow activities.
Day camping is possible throughout the expansive grounds, attracting local families and visitors of all ages across all seasons. The park is accessible by bus from Makomanai Station on the Sapporo Subway Namboku Line.
