A bridge spanning the Shirai River along the route from the Jozankei hot spring village toward Hoheikyo Gorge, and a key stop on the Jozankei "Bridge Walk" — a scenic course connecting several bridges across the Toyohira River and its tributaries. The bridges of Jozankei, including Futami Suspension Bridge, Tsukimi Bridge, Nishiki Bridge, and Koyo Bridge, each create their own distinctive interplay with the gorge landscape. Shigurebashi's name is believed to derive from "shigure," the Japanese word for the gentle lingering rains of autumn.

The bridge's setting of lush trees and clear mountain streams is lovely in any season, but it is particularly known as a hidden gem during the autumn foliage season — when the surrounding trees blaze in red and orange, and their reflection in the calm water below creates a quietly stunning scene. Its off-the-beaten-path atmosphere adds to its appeal for those seeking a more serene experience.

Visitors to Jozankei often enjoy the "Bridge Walk" route with a map in hand, exploring several bridges in a single outing. Each bridge has its own character, offering a unique window into the natural beauty and history of the gorge. Shigurebashi makes a pleasant stop along the way to Hoheikyo Gorge.
