Odori Park 大通公園

A verdant park stretching approximately 1.5 kilometers east to west through the heart of Sapporo, covering about 7.8 hectares. Running from 1-chome to 12-chome, this expansive green space is home to approximately 4,700 trees of about 92 species, serving as a year-round gathering place for locals and tourists alike. Dotted with fountains and sculptures, the park bursts with flowers in spring and glows with autumn foliage later in the year. Food stalls selling corn and potatoes — symbols of Hokkaido agriculture — have become a beloved summer tradition.

Odori Park is also renowned as the stage for major events throughout the year. The Sapporo Snow Festival, which began in 1950, has grown into a winter celebration that draws over two million visitors from Japan and abroad every February. May brings the Sapporo Lilac Festival, when around 400 lilac trees bloom across the park, while September sees the Sapporo Autumn Fest, Hokkaido's largest gourmet event, attracting over two million visitors across its run. In winter, the Sapporo White Illumination wraps the park in a warm glow of lights.

Sapporo TV Tower stands at the eastern end of the park, serving as the landmark that watches over the entire space. In the very center of the city, Odori Park offers a rare combination of lush greenery and open sky — the defining heart of Sapporo.
