Mt. Moiwa Ropeway 札幌もいわ山ロープウェイ
A ropeway providing access to Mt. Moiwa (531 meters above sea level), conveniently located close to central Sapporo. Visitors take the ropeway from the base station, then transfer to a mini cable car called "Mōris Car" at the mid-station to reach the summit observatory. The gondola accommodates up to 66 passengers and features large glass panels offering views of Mt. Moiwa's lush primeval forest and the spreading cityscape below. The entire facility is fully barrier-free, with elevators in all buildings, making it accessible for wheelchair users and elderly visitors alike.
From the summit observatory, a sweeping 360-degree panorama unfolds over Sapporo's cityscape, Ishikari Bay, and the Sea of Japan, with the distant Shokanbetsu Mountains visible on clear days. Mt. Moiwa is one of the premier spots for viewing Sapporo's nightscape, which has been recognized as one of Japan's New Top Three Night Views — at night, the city spreads out below in a breathtaking tapestry of lights. The mountain has also been certified as a "Lover's Sanctuary," making it a popular destination for couples.
Mt. Moiwa is also a habitat for brown bears, and its rich natural environment is carefully preserved. The ropeway is accessible via a free shuttle bus from the Ropeway-Iriguchi stop on the Sapporo City Tram, making it an easy day trip from the city center.
