An observation point along the road at the shore of Lake Shikotsu, offering a sweeping view over this nationally renowned lake. Lake Shikotsu is a caldera lake with a maximum depth of 363 meters and one of the highest water transparency ratings of any lake in Japan. On clear days, the lake glows with the vivid deep blue known as "Shikotsu Blue," set against the backdrop of surrounding mountains. From the observation deck, visitors look out over the broad expanse of the lake with Mt. Fuppushi, Mt. Eniwadake, and Mt. Tarumae rising dramatically across the water.

Because Lake Shikotsu falls within Shikotsu-Toya National Park, strict height restrictions protect the natural landscape, meaning no tall structures exist nearby. The observation deck offers a tree-level perspective on the lake, and this low vantage point actually makes the view most expansive from late autumn through spring, when fallen leaves open up the sight lines. A free parking area is conveniently available.

The lake's surroundings offer canoeing, sea kayaking, and diving, and several hot spring accommodation options are available in the Shikotsu Onsen area. In winter, the "Shikotsu-ko Hyoto Festival" transforms the lakeside with elaborate ice sculptures illuminated in a cool blue glow — a truly magical winter spectacle.
